Who is Batonage?

Batonage is made up of 2 very passionate foodies and wine lovers.  One part with hospitality and wine training, the other part being a lifelong fan of good food and wine and especially passionate about service levels.  Together we decided to create a record of our adventures in food and wine, something we indulge in almost daily.  We are avid wine hunters, always on the look out for something new and unique to talk, write and spread the word about.  When it comes to food we consider ourselves adventurous eaters, scavenging the latest food and wine pairing at the best eateries, but equally happy to indulge in uncomplicated fare at our local bistro.

The focus will be on visiting wine farms and restaurants, both old and new, and telling you dear reader, of our experiences there.   Every attempt will be made to make the information relevant and we might even make you smile once in a while.  Expect the odd swear word as Batonage likes to tell it like it is.

Hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy writing about it.

Hennie and Maggie

Thanks for the great blog Batonage. I’m always looking for great restaurants to go to in Cape Town and some of your recommendations have been spot on! Pay Vaudeville a visit and write back!

As two foodies ourselves…we really enjoy your blog. Just unfortunate that we are stuck in Australia far, far away from all the gorgeous things the Cape can offer the palate. Will be in the cape for 3 days in December…will have to get some babysitters and make a dash for some fine dining!!

I am pretty sure you guys have some awesome stuff available to you on your doorstep. We watch Masterchef Australia and there seems to be an even bigger foodie/wino thing going in Australia than we have here in Cape Town.

Thank you Corlea – we meant every word we said – it truly is a magnificent wine and our visit to the farm was equally great.

I’m stuck in a corner of the world that is recovering from many years of civil war (Liberia), and yet it is truly amazing to find a few restaurants where the service is simply excellent, the staff friendly and willing, and a chef who will accede to simple requests.

I can’t go out and purchase a rump steak at the local butchery, coz’ there isn’t one, so being able to luxuriate in the service provided by the restaurants in Monrovia is truly out of this world.

I raise my glass in salute to your mission, and may I add more power to your elbow!.
