The Beast of the Deep & the Bree Street Burger from &Union
We’ve gotten used to the quality of food that we’re served at &Union in Bree Street, their prego’s and pulled pork sandwiches are legendary.
I’ve always wanted a burger from them, and they’ve finally obliged me (and I am sure many other burger connoisseurs).
The Bree Street Burger is made up of one part free range beef patty (sourced from Bill Riley, one of Cape Town’s oldests family-run butchers), one part Bree Street bread bun (sourced from Knead Bakery), and equal parts cheese, pickle and bacon (all sourced from great local suppliers).
It’s a fantastic, flavourful product that leaves you satisfied, and considering the R50 price tag, not many can hold a candle. The patty has the right consistency, the bun is a perfectly soft hamburger bun.
It is clear that a lot of thought went into the burger and it shows in the quality.
Go grab it.
Then order a bottle of the new &Union lager called “Beast of the Deep”. A tropical-fruit aroma greets you with a creamy, smooth mouthfeel and an almost honey-like character before the biscuity, chewy malt backbone coats your palate with a smooth richness. The finish is elegant and dry, leaving you yearning for more…but beware, the alcohol is a tad higher on this Beast.

The question at hand is however: Is it better than the Dog’s Bollocks Burgers?
